Fold equity is a term meaning you make an aggressive action that gives you an opportunity to win the pot uncontested, by making your opponent fold.
HOW TO KNOW IF YOU HAVE FOLD EQUITY
Fold equity is determined by how many chips you or your opponent has, and the size of your bet.
Basically, you if it is clear that your opponent is not “pot committed” by the size of his bet, then you likely have fold equity against him if you raise.
“Life, like poker has an element of risk. It shouldn’t be avoided. It should be faced.”
BLUFFING WITH FOLD EQUITY
Making sure that you have ‘fold equity’ when making aggressive plays is essential when you are bluffing or semi-bluffing.
Your bet must be large enough to force you opponent off of a marginal or weak hand.
Never attempt a bluff unless you’re sure you have fold equity.
